    Solomons Seal (Polygonatum multiflorum)
This is the essence for the “busy” person who has things that need doing but who somehow cannot get round to completing them. All too often we get bogged down with trivia, unable to settle to the more essential jobs in a clear and competent manner. We do not see that it is the act of being busy that is the real problem. By becoming quiet and apparently doing less, we actually become much more efficient, spending far less time and energy doing things in an inappropriate way. Indeed, we should question the need for doing some things at all! This busy-ness is often exploited by other people who see us as a soft touch, using us to do what they want, irrespective of our own needs. As we quieten, we increasingly discover what we need to be doing for our own fulfilment. Less and less will we automatically agree to the requests of others.

This essence can also be very helpful to those who practise meditation but who have problems with a constantly chattering mind, a very common complaint. Our minds should be our servants, not our masters. Solomon’s Seal helps us to reassert control over our wayward minds. It is rather like training an unruly dog, so it may take an appreciable time. However, the end result is well worth the time taken.
